Grange Park Surgery
The singing group achieved nearly the same impact as NHS Talking Therapy but at a 10th of the cost
The Innovation
Sophie passionately believes in the therapeutic power of music for enhancing health and well-being.
She is a member of ‘Bring Me Sunshine’, a trio dedicated to providing music, relaxation, and breathing exercises for school children and care home residents.
Sophie started a six-week singing community singing group aimed at improving lung health for groups of 10-15 people afflicted with chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, and long COVID.
She is also planning to run groups for people with dementia, Parkinson’s, and general mental health challenges.
The Impact
- Patients had fun and felt much more able to manage their respiratory health.
- 80% saw a clinically significant reduction in anxiety, similar to the impact of NHS Talking Therapy.
- The singing group cost approximately £60 per patient while NHS Talking Therapy costs over 10 times more.
