The National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) welcomes the Independent Review led by Lord Darzi and are delighted to see our contribution to the review reflected in the recommendations.
NAPC’s long held position is that fixing a “broken” NHS requires us to invest wisely in care closer to home, a focus on prevention and moving to more digital services. We know that for every £1 spent in primary care we can save £14 .
However, none of this is new. The real challenge is putting into action everything we already know about the benefits to the health of our nation that come with adopting this approach.
NAPC has unparalleled experience in leading change in primary care through supporting our members to challenge the status quo and providing evidence and support for improving the health of the population, championing prevention and supporting staff well-being.
This includes bringing care closer to home through our work with Integrated Neighbourhood Teams in Dorset, establishing a greater focus of prevention to address health inequalities through Community Health and Wellbeing Workers operating across the country and accelerating the move from analogue to digital services through our digital programme in Northwest London.

Chair of the NAPC, Dr Caroline Taylor said:
“We recognise that this is the first step, the diagnosis and the beginning of radical reform for the NHS. We look forward to being part of the solution, working with partners to develop the10 year plan that will provide health and care services that we all deserve and that are fit for the future. That future must include more preventative healthcare so that we move from ill health to better health and well-being”
