Rebecca Lowe
Care Coordinator
Dearne Valley Group Practice
The Challenge
Within her role as a care coordinator, Rebecca noticed that there were several patients who had not attended for their routine cervical screenings which represented the highest number of ‘DID NOT ATTEND’ appointments at her practice. She also found it challenging to reach out to those who hadn’t had their cervical screenings for several years, making it difficult to ensure proper follow-up.
“I wanted to educate women on why cervical screenings are important.”
The Innovation
Rebecca obtained data to ascertain the levels of cervical cancer diagnoses. Rebecca contacted those patients identified with overdue screenings. As well as this, she would send a reminder message one week before the appointment, emphasising the importance of regular cervical screenings.

The Impact
- Decreases the number of appointments being cancelled
- Reduces amount of DNA appointments
- Increases the chance of detecting cervical cancer earlier- therefore increasing survival rates
- Educates the local community on the importance of attending
